Ninth House | Let’s Talk

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Leigh Bardugo did a fantastic job with this book! I was a little weary with the book with all of the hype that surrounded it, but I am thoroughly impressed! There was so much going on, and I loved every second of it! At first, it was not my favorite book; in fact, it was letting me down a little bit, but as soon as the plot really took off, boy was I in for a treat! Ninth House is a must-read, there is something in it for everyone. We get to go to Yale, one of the most prestigious universities in the world, and get a look at the magic and secret societies, and murder. Trigger warning: There is rape involving a minor, and drug usage in this book.

Stay up to date!

Summary:

Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. By age twenty, in fact, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most elite universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her? Still searching for answers to this herself, Alex arrives in New Haven tasked by her mysterious benefactors with monitoring the activities of Yale’s secret societies. These eight windowless “tombs” are well-known to be haunts of the future rich and powerful, from high-ranking politicos to Wall Street and Hollywood’s biggest players. But their occult activities are revealed to be more sinister and more extraordinary than any paranoid imagination might conceive

Check out my friend’s debut book here!

I really love this book because we get the story from two different people and watch one of them disappear. It really takes you on a wild ride, and You can get all spun around. In this book, I really didn’t know what exactly was going on how what direction the story was going to go. A book hasn’t made me feel like that in a really long time, and I am so thankful for it! I really enjoyed the mystery of who the killer was and the relationship that Alex had with the Grays. Having a strong woman with such a complex background as our POV is so refreshing! . I love how we see so much of Alex’s past and her drug use and how she got passed it. Ninth House hit so many good points about life and added so much fantasy in it as well. I am so excited for book two and to see what happened to Darlington! It kind of sucks how the first half of the book was really slow and lacking. I won’t lie, I almost gave up on it, but the second half saved it!

Go out and read this book, if you have already read it give me your thoughts below!
