Home Before Dark

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I have been trying to get more into scary books this year, and this year I wrote quite a few! Home Before Dark by Riley Sager is an amazing book that had me on my toes the entire time! It also gives me all of the feels! The twist, secrets, and monsters were all on point in this book, and I am obsessed with this book! The dual storyline had my spine tingling. Riley Sager is one of my new favorite authors, and I will give him the highest praise. I read this book almost a month ago, and it still has me thinking about it!

Summary

We follow Maggie, whose father had written a best selling novel about the house that they use to live in and all of the paranormal things that would happen there. Maggie didn’t remember anything from the house, but her parents always told her never to go there. Since her father’s passing, she found out that her father still owns the house, and she has now inherited the home. When she goes back to fix it up and sell it, strange things start happening, and secrets start to come out.

Another great spooky book is The Whisper Man!

Pros

Home Before Dark is one of those books that you can visually see everything. Every ghost, every weird thing, every room, and the paintings. The worldbuilding in this book was terrific, and I loved the characters! This actually kept me up at night, not just because it was scary, but because it was so good and I had to finish it! No matter what your scared of, this book has it in it; murder, snakes, ghosts, creepy dudes, and so on. I also really enjoy reading the book that Maggie’s father wrote and reading her story. The dual timeline, and sometimes getting into a third with characters who lived in the house before them. I really enjoyed the writing style; it kept me in the book when the pace did slow down a little bit. This may have been me since I haven’t read too many horror books, but I didn’t see the ending coming.

Don’t miss a thing on my upcoming novel! Sing up here!

Cons

I don’t really have anything to say about Home Before Dark. I have seen a few people say that they liked it, but it feels like other books, but the overall thought on it is it’s good.

If you like books about haunted houses and gothic horror this is for you! Even if you just want a good scare, this is it! Let me know your thoughts about his book below!
