Many people have already read The Selection Series, probably when they were in middle or high school. Here I am at the age of 23 and just read them for the first time. Why did I wait? I honestly don’t know. This book had been on my TBR list for a really long time, and I never got around to buying it! Yes, I bought all five books, but I’ve only read the first three….so far. I have so much love for these books, and I wish I would have started reading them sooner!
The Selection: Parts of this book reminded me of the Hunger Games, another part of this book reminded me of Divergent. If were to mix both of those out, take out the violence and turn it into The Bachelor: Royal Edition, that would be this book. I really can’t believe that I put this book off for so long! I have to say, I didn’t like Aspen when the book started, and he just got worse and worse as the book went on. #Maxonforever Honestly, this was really predictable, but I’m actually okay with that. Why? Because this book was probably meant for middle/high school readers, and I’m an adult. I read each of these books in like a day, but honestly, I would have sat in a chair and read it all at one time if I was able to! I loved that this book didn’t start out as full on love triangle. I appreciated that America told the Prince that she had her heartbroken and didn’t want to be with him. It’s so refreshing to see that happen in a book!

The Elite: I read these all back to back so that I might have some things in the wrong book, but stay with me. This is the book (or the moment) where my dislike for Aspen, turned into hate. He showed up as a guard, broken up with America, and still inferred with her life with Maxon! I do place a little blame on America, but I know how hard it can be to let go of a person you love. Aspen should have gotten over himself and let her be. He is the reason she is in the palace in the first place. He plays mind games with her that I really kept hoping he would die. I also enjoy this book because of the friendships that are shown in the book. I love the girls in this book and so many different personalities! I mean, they may be cliche, but I really wouldn’t change it any other way! This was probably my favorite book out of the three. I really didn’t put the book down unless I had to, and I was even thinking about it at work. So much happens in this book, and I don’t even know how to process it. We had death, people coming back, fighting, attacks, love, and so much more!
The One: I needed this book to be longer. First, let’s talk about how we not only have a love triangle between Maxon, America, and Aspen; but we also have a love triangle between Maxon, America, and Kriss. I would have loved to know what was going on in that relationship! This added so much to this story and had me a little worried. I know there are two more books after this book, but still. But in the end, all was right with the world. I even started not to hate Aspen as much, once he and Lucy became a couple. The one thing I really did not care for was one that the secret relationship between Aspen and American was hidden and lasted for so long. I also didn’t like how quickly Maxon and America got back together. It just seemed a little rushed for me. I feel like there would have been a lot more issues when they got back together that the book seems to skip over.
Tell me your thoughts on these books!
