There are so many ways to read a book; we have physical books, ebooks, and audiobooks. There are so many upsides and downsides to them, but which is the best? Today, We are going to take a look and see what is the are the pros and cons of each of these and see if there is the best version of a book!

1.       EBooks

Ebooks are probably the most accessible way to read a book. You can learn from a nook, kindle, laptop, phone, iPods (people still have those right? Haha), and really thing that has a screen and get apps! It’s much lighter than carrying around your book, and you don’t need headphones, and you can often find books for really cheap or for free! You also can connect your devices, so if you need to switch what you are reading on or forgot something at home, you and still keep reading right where you left off. This makes reading so portable and easy to do everywhere! Like all good things, there are some downsides to ebooks. You have to charge your device s out could die while you are out; you might get logged out of your app, and if you’re like me, it’s always a hassle to get logged back into things. Since you’re staring at a screen, it’s easy to get headaches from reading on your screen for too long. Some devices have the ability to decreased the chances of a headache and eye aches, but they still happen. Another downfall of ereaders is that a lot of it is books online on a cloud that you need to download if you want to read offline. This isn’t a problem if you have unlimited data, but can be frustrating when you finish a book and don’t have another one downloaded on a flight. The biggest downfall, in my opinion, they are distracting. I get so distracted by all the notifications that pop up when I am reading.

2.       Physical Books

I am a little bias here; I love physical books. They have the book smell and have fantastic designs, a lot of the time. Physical books are also great for letting people know you are busy. People see you holding a book, and they know you are doing something and sometimes walk away. They also don’t lose their charge! This may be an only me thing, but I also feel more connected to the book when I have a physical copy. Another great thing about physical books is that there are so many different versions of the physical books. There are hardbacks, paperbacks, movie covers, original copies, author’s editions, etc. These books are also great for taking pictures! I feel like you can do so much more with photos when you have a physical book compared to a flat device like a kindle or phone. I could keep going on about why I love physical books, but there are some downsides — one being that the slightest amount of water can ruin a book. Also, covers and pages get ripped and bent. This often shows how much a book has been read and loved, but it’s not always fun to have to be so gentle it won’t rip more.

3. Audio Books

I’ll be honest, I’ve never used an audiobook before because they don’t sound appealing to me. Many great things come with audiobooks. Like ebooks, they can go anywhere with you, but you can listen to it. This means that you can listen to a story while working out or read without getting car sick. This is also a great alternative to music! It’s a great way to read books without having to sit down and open up the book! The downside is that it will drain your battery, and you might miss some things if you space out.
